Share the Traditions. Discover the Culture.
Perfect for bilingual and multicultural families who want to share Ukrainian traditions with the next generation, build language skills through storytelling, and celebrate the season together. It is also a wonderful way for anyone interested in Ukraine to discover its Christmas customs in a fun and engaging way.
Across 20 interactive pages, children and families discover the stories and meanings behind Ukrainian winter traditions: why people decorate their homes with straw spiders, why three candles might appear on a Christmas table, why a goat became a symbol of Christmas, what Christmas smells like in Ukraine and how people tell fortunes. Animated scenes and simple touch interactions bring each page to life.
The app also includes a built-in AR camera with a growing collection of original face effects inspired by Ukrainian winter traditions, characters and folklore.

We were both born and raised in Ukraine, but our daughters were born thousands of miles away in Los Angeles.
First because of the pandemic, and then because of the war, neither of our girls had the chance to visit Ukraine, where their grandparents and great-grandparents still live.
As they grew up, it became increasingly important to us that Ukrainian culture wasn’t something they simply knew they came from, but something they could experience, understand and make their own.
We had spent most of our careers building technology and augmented reality experiences at Snap Inc. (Snapchat). So we decided to use what we knew best — storytelling, design, technology and AR — to create a different way for our children to discover the traditions we grew up with.
What started as a project for our own family became Christmas Traditions of Ukraine: first a book, and now an interactive bilingual app created for children and families growing up across languages, cultures and borders.
Today, our family lives in London. Ukraine is still far away, but its traditions remain very much a part of our home.
